Trading the Betfair sporting markets in -play is rapidly growing in popularity thanks to the increased sporting coverage available on many different satellite and cable channels.

Enthusiasm for the sport is a must, but there is much more to mastering Betfair.

Many people start by just using Betfair to obtain better odds than those available at the traditional bookmakers. Then they perhaps do a little more research and learn to trade the markets. But to make a regular profit – to win and keep on winning – a serious disciplined approach and carefull planning need to be employed.

Mastering Betfair By Pete Nordsted takes the reader through many low risk strategies developed by Pete himself over the past three years, showing how you too can benefit from these approaches to the betting exchanges. It also explains in detail why and how the Betfair user should employ disciplines such as managing risk that are usually associated with trading the financial markets.

Indeed through doing this it is hoped that the book will draw the attention of financial traders to the unique opportunities available on Betfair.

This book is essential reading for anyone looking to take their Betfair trading to another level and start making serious money.

It reveals the methods that he now uses for successful gambling at the racetrack. Watching Racehorses explains:

How to assess fatness and fitness – the body condition of horses

What to look for in the birdcage stalls, including pawing, weaving and restless behaviour

The importance of horse tack and equipment, including the bridle and bit, tongue tie, nose roll, pacifiers, boots and bandages

The impact of sexual behaviour

What to watch out for in the parade ring and mounting yard, including strapper control, horse posture and gait

Behaviour on the track, including sweating and control by the clerk of the course

Watching Racehorses introduces the new and unique concept of behavioural handicapping – scoring horses according to the total amount of bad behaviour they display before a race. By simply betting on favourites with perfect behavioural handicaps it is possible for a casual racegoer to turn a normal 5% loss into a 10% profit.

More than 60 behaviour patterns are described in comprehensive detail. An analysis of the effect of these behaviours on a horse’s winning chance, based on observation of over 10,000 horses, is unprecedented in the history of horse racing.

Most racegoers say that they would like to look at the horses, but don’t know where to look. This book shows you where and how. There are 230 pages, with over 50 photographs, 30 figures and tables, and a comprehensive index and further reading list.

He informed us that after a lifetime of systematic betting he was finally in a position to make a comfortable income from horse race betting. He also suggested, perhaps, he could be of some assistance to us.

The product of this fortuitous encounter was the Racing Retirement Plan by Bernard Hibbert.

Split into two parts this book first gives an insightful overview on how to approach serious and professional betting and the second part introduces and explains seven winning systems which Bernard himself uses daily.

Throughout the book Bernard shares his many years of experience with the reader. Among other subjects, Bernard explains:

The psychology of betting
Betting banks
Systematic betting
Horse selection
Weight
Handicapping
Going
Draw bias
Paddock watching
Trainer and jockey trends
Statistics

The systems themselves do work and you can expect to make money if used correctly.

In 2000 a company called Betfair, founded by Andrew Black and Ed Wray, began trading. Since then, the brainchild of these two contrasting English innovators has meant the world of gambling, sport, the Internet, government attitudes to betting and public perceptions of what is behind a ‘flutter’ haven’t been the same.

Betfair is an Internet betting exchange, which pairs up via the web those who want to have a bet (‘backers’) with those who want to take one (‘layers’), cutting out the traditional middleman, namely the bookmaker. The company’s success – Betfair today is one of the world’s ten biggest companies operating on the web – has fuelled exponential growth in Internet betting. What’s more, the operation has revolutionised the way the globe gambles, forcing bookmakers to change, altered how sport deals with corruption based around betting and how governments worldwide treat betting, and caused shifts in cultural and social attitudes to betting generally. You Bet considers the Betfair story, a remarkable tale of how a simple idea tapped into the modern-day global psyche for betting and became a multi-billion dollar company. But much more than that, You Bet considers the worldwide impact, culturally and socially, of the explosion in Internet betting in which Betfair has been both an agent for change and a beneficiary of evolving attitudes to betting.

This vibrant new book takes you to the heart of the colourful world of betting, features a range of characters with personality and opinions in proportion and offers unique analysis of why people gamble. The book is both an inspirational – and aspirational – tale of how the dream of two men became a reality.

The past decade has seen a technological revolution in facilities for betting on horseracing and other sports. From the proliferation of online information to the advent of betting exchanges, it is now possible to analyse form and betting odds; run selection systems; place bets and track results electronically.

Today, the leading betting exchange, Betfair, matches 15 times as many daily transactions as the London Stock Exchange.

Crucially, the availability of programmatic access to exchange markets via an application programming interface (API), enables the final piece in reliable automation of the entire betting process.

Automatic Exchange Betting examines each stage of the betting process and shows how it can be automated, with numerous examples applied to horseracing, all implemented using the Betfair API.

Betting strategies, best practice and pitfalls are presented which illustrate the concepts of betting automation, together with practical, re-useable code examples written in open source software to work with Betfair’s Free Access API.

The book shows how automating betting strategies not only saves time, but introduces an entirely new paradigm for betting.

A combination of speed of execution, consistency and scalability means hitherto impossible betting strategies become feasible, and methodical approaches to betting can be implemented without manual intervention.

Let’s face it. There are very few books about gambling that give information that isn’t already available in the public domain. Many are a complete waste of money. I guess it’s not hard to work out why. If someone makes a big effort and goes through financial sacrifice to develop methods to make money out of gambling the last thing they are going to do is share them!!

This is why Colin Magee’s book is such a revelation. It provides the mechanics of automated betting in such a way that most people can make use of it. Colin has obviously worked very hard to accumulate all his knowledge and techniques, yet seems very happy to share it. It’s true to say that to make the best out of it you need to come up with your own theories to gain an edge, but this books gives you the means to put them into practice.

I would recommend this book to anyone who is interested in exploring the concept of gambling as an investment rather than a thrill generator.

It won’t tell you the winners but it will narrow it down pretty well.

Last years guide threw up at least 5 20+/1 winners, a string of each ways and the future pointers saved me a pretty penny when horses I’d backed went onto race later in the season. EG Soldier of Fortune won the Coronation Stakes at Epsom on Oaks day, a 2 star future profit rate for winners of this race so I was right not to back him again.

This book is must.

Enemy Number One offers an often controversial but utterly fascinating insight into Veitch’s life of punting. For anyone who likes the occasional bet or who takes gambling seriously and has both the ‘brain surgeon’ and ‘mad axeman’ capabilities to do it there is more to be gleaned from this book than probably any other betting book.

Veitch is no ordinary punter. Enemy Number One documents an eight-year period of profits in excess of £10 million. It also chronicles the tactical headaches of placing bets with the bookmakers using Veitch’s vast network of agents and sub-agents.

Veitch has had no comfortable ride, though. Just a short while after becoming a full-time punter he was the victim of an extortion attempt by a dangerous criminal who was subsequently tried twice for murder and later convicted of attempted murder. Veitch was forced to flee and go into hiding, returning to Cambridge to testify in a bulletproof jacket with police protection.

With the criminal behind bars, Veitch, in dire financial straits, resolved to take on the bookmakers in his comeback year on a greater scale than ever before. Enemy Number One details his role as the man behind the famous Exponential coup, winning the Scoop6 and his success as an owner/punter. He describes his Fundamental Principle of Betting Theory to explain why the approach of most punters is fatally flawed and details the approach that is needed in order to succeed. He also provides in-depth coverage of a full day in his work as a professional punter.

Told in Veitch’s own candid ice-cool style, with an intelligent wit throughout, this is quite simply a compelling read.
